November 12, 2020
Dear Parents, Community, and Staff of Hollis Consolidated #328:
With the tremendous efforts of our staff, teachers, and YOU, we have been able to offer in-person learning for the duration of the school year thus far.
That being said, we have come to a point that we have to temporarily shut down due to our staff either acquiring the virus or being subjected to exclusionary guidelines from the Illinois Department of Public Health. This has happened to several districts in the Peoria County area recently and now has happened at Hollis.
Hollis will be open for in-person learning tomorrow with dismissal at 12:30, however, Hollis will go to Full Remote Learning for all grades beginning November 17 through Thanksgiving Break. On Monday, November 16, we will have another Remote Planning Day. While some materials may be sent home tomorrow, parents will need to pick up items on Monday from 12:00 – 4:00 PM. This includes tomorrow’s previously scheduled remote learning pickup. Material pickup for grades K-5 will be held in the auditorium. Please use the back parking lot and enter through the auditorium doors. As of today, all grade levels will return to in-person learning dismissing at 12:30 on Monday, November 30. Lunches can be picked up at 12:00-12:30 each day at Hollis at the back door for all remote learners beginning Monday. We are working with Aramark to finalize this process. More information will be communicated tomorrow.
We want to continue to emphasize to everyone to plan in case the school should have a need to shut down for a longer period of time (i.e. two-week quarantine), or if the Governor or IDPH forces us to close our doors again (similar to what happened back in March). Please have this plan ready to put into action on very short notice. We have already had our schedules change twice for us in the last week. The plan, for now, is to offer in-person learning dismissing at 12:30 or remote learning only if needed until winter break. As we get closer to winter break, we will communicate what our schedule will look like after 2020 is over.
We hope that you have seen that we will do everything in our power to keep the doors open so that our students can continue to have in-person learning opportunities. This is just another reminder to plan accordingly and be ready should the need arise to have coverage for your kids in two different schedules or scenarios. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Chad Jones
Hollis Superintendent
